How do wireless IEMs work?

You can think of wireless IEMs as a speaker and transmitter in one compact package. Wireless IEMs or TWS share pretty much the same makeup as far as drivers and shell design go. The only difference is that TWS have a small circuit board and antenna in each earbud, which enables wireless connections via Bluetooth through your smartphone, tablet, or laptop.

Wireless IEMs connect in two ways - Master and Slave connection or through a Simultaneous connection.

In a Master/Slave connection, the source device transmits audio to one earbud (master) and then forwards the data to the other earbud (slave). In Simultaneous connection, both earbuds connect to the source device at the same time. The source device transmits data to both earbuds, creating a wireless stereo environment.

For both connection types, Bluetooth is the primary wireless connection protocol used for wireless IEMs and TWS. Manufacturers will employ the latest Bluetooth technologies to ensure high-bandwidth and high-speed transmission for the best audio quality

Wireless in-ear monitors were notorious for having inferior sound. The limitations posed by wireless connections meant wireless IEMs could not stream full-resolution audio, leaving out details in your music. With modern wireless technology and daring multi-driver setups like those found in TWS featured in this collection, you can finally enjoy top-tier sound wirelessly

Best Wireless IEM for Music

Noble Audio FoKus Prestige

Noble Audio Fokus Prestige IEM shells top view

Price: $599.00

Gorgeous wood-crafted build, exciting features, and top-tier wireless sound

The Noble Audio FoKus Prestige is arguably the best TWS you can get for the best music listening experience. It combines stunning looks, a robust build, and great sound in a portable wireless package.

One of the first things you will notice about the FoKus Prestige is its stunning earbud shells and charging case design. The Brown and Blue color options feature a wooden build - atypical of IEMs or TWS. Its unique build and design will surely turn heads wherever you go

Handling the FoKus Prestige’s sound is a triple-driver setup consisting of an 8.2mm dynamic driver for the bass and two Balanced Armature drivers for the midrange and treble. In terms of sound, the Prestige delivers a bass-heavy, yet balanced sound signature with good clarity and detail

The bass on the FoKus Prestige is its best trait. It has enough bass to satisfy bass heads, but there’s also great separation between the sub-bass and mid-bass frequencies, which results in a rumbly yet punchy sound

While the FoKus Prestige has elevated bass, its midrange isn’t recessed, which lends to a more forward and detailed vocal and instrument presentation. Typically, TWS has poor mid-range tuning due to driver limitations, but thanks to the FoKus Prestige’s triple-driver setup, the midrange here is quite good.

The treble on the FoKus Prestige is smooth but sounds a bit pushed back in the mix. There’s enough treble extension to give high-frequency instruments some shimmer, but don’t expect to get eye-opening treble from the FoKus Prestige.

The FoKus Prestige is a well-tuned TWS with an enjoyable sound out of the box, but you can enhance or tweak the sound using EQ through the FoKus App.

In terms of battery life, the FoKus Prestige offers up to 10 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. The beautiful wooden charging case supports fast charging to keep your music playing longer

Qualcomm TrueWireless Mirroring, Qualcomm CVC noise canceling, voice assistant support, touch controls, and improved PCB design ensure the FoKus Prestige delivers top-tier wireless sound without any dropouts or interruptions.
