I've owned just about every mainstream TWS out there and that voyage started many years ago when the first company to introduce the idea of a TWS was an outfit called Kona on kickstarter, over 10 years ago. Those folks took people's money and disappeared, unfortunately.
My how times have changed since then, as tws setups are now found by the dozens just about anywhere you look. Everybody makes them. There are alot of nice setups out there (bowers, beoplay, technics, masters, denon, etc) but, to me, the Rex5 are on a different level in just about every aspect. The only thing that really sticks out to me as a con is the lack of an IP rating and lack of a wear sensor. I really don't care much about the wear sensor, but some folks will. I've read other reviews that listed battery life as a con as well, but I don't necessarily agree with that. Even at 5 hours with ANC on, that is more than respectable considering what powerhouses these are and the amount of drivers in each one. Race cars don't get 30 miles a gallon.
The most comfortable TWS I've owned are the new Linkbud fits. They are small, lightweight and just fit me extremely well. The Rex5 are just as comfortable, somehow. They are bigger, they weigh more, and yet I could forget I was wearing them. I'm not sure what kind of voodoo they worked up on these for that, but it is mighty powerful lol. They really are that comfortable.
Then there is the sound quality and call quality (both in and out for calls). If these were wired IEMs, the sound quality would be fantastic. To say it's phenomenal for a TWS is an absolute understatement. There was an individual on reddit that came on strong for these, then I'm guessing something happened to them and they immediately flipped script, started bashing these and started pushing for the technics az-100. I stopped paying attention when they claimed that even the AZ-80 where better than the Rex5. That is just absolute non-sense. I own those as well and there is just no comparison. The 80's are good, for sure, but they aren't on the same level. I'm not sure about the new az-100, and will likely not venture to find out as I just like the Rex5 that much.
These really are an endgame type TWS, in my opinion, and I am thankful that all of the money spending I've done on earbuds throughout the years is finally over. I can't see wanting to replace these with anything else, unless they do happen to come out with an IP6x rating or above.
All in all, I am super stoked to have these beauties and am exceptionally happy with the speed that I received them at. Great job by the folks at HifiSoundGear and thank you for helping me find the TWS I've been searching for.
